computer slows down after sp2 install

what could cause this? sometimes its ok, other times its hogged down like a pig, insane times to open even internet explorer. its a p4 2.8

How much ram do you have?

virus? spyware? have you cleaned the system?

Most of the problems associated with installing SP2 on a pre-existing system are due to the fact the system had malware running at the time of install. Try cleaning the system and then re-applying the service pack if that doesn't work.

Try opening Task list and seeing what process is eating up all the CPU.

i ran spybot, adaware, ms antispyware and kaspersky before the install, all updated, and showed completely clean... ram is a problem, it only has 256, but the pc is significantly slower than what it was... i mean its a pig compared to what it was before
