i have an old amd k6 system and it sometimes restarts automatically, or if i hit or nudge the tower it will restart, would this be power supply related? all connections are tight.

There's a good chance that's your issue, or you could have a short in one of the wires running to the motherboard (pw,rst, spkr, etc).

Go into your bios and see if there's a PC Health section. A lot of them will show you the current voltage for each of the rails. Make sure they're pretty close to what they're supposed to be. If not, time for a new power supply.

i hooked up another psu that i found in my basement, pressed the power button saw a huge spark, and smelt burnt electronics........... I then hooked the old psu back up, and it turns on, like all the fans go on, hard drive goes on and what not, but nothing comes up on the monitor. I tried 2 video cards too. Looks like the mobo is toasted...

It could also be a grounding issue. Grounding a motherboard via either motherboard standoffs, or, add in PCI cards making contact at the rear bracket can do this. Try removing all your PCI cards except the video card and try to see if it reboots.
