Computer power surge broken

OK short story shorter... Something happened with electric wires that sent way too much power into the computer so we think.

I've not seen my friends computer yet all i know is it wont turn on at all or do anything. I know with such limited info you probably cant fix it... but all i want is some tips on what to do.

How do i find out whats broken or not? should i just get a new PSU and work my way down to what works?

Not sure what parts of a computer can still be good after a harsh power surge. So maybe this forum can help me know. Thanks

You've given us too little information to offer any specific help. Use the troubleshooting sticky as your primary guide.

Was the computer connected to a surge protector or an uninterruptible power supply (UPS)? If so, what's the condition of the surge protector/UPS? If not, why not?

What are the full specs of the computer? Have you performed a visual inspection of the insides of the computer?
 
i should see it tonight ill post what you want then or tomorrow. but what do you mean condition of the surge protector? it was on one yes but ive not seen it at all.
