I have a AMD Quad, running on an Asus M3A78-EM board that will not burn any disks. It's running Win7 Ent. and I've tested with 3 different software products (CloneDVD, ImgBurn, Win7 Image Writer), two different drives (LG and LiteOn), and two different IDE cables and disks.

The drive will power on and the Master will read disks fine. The BIOS sees the drive fine also. It recognized my Audio CD I put in, but would not play it either. After trying to access the drive with a disk in it, it pretty much hangs explorer.

Started banging my head against the wall, so thought I'd come in here.

Also tried that. Not sure how it could be a bad drive, being that I tried two, but I did order another this morning.

it could be the IDE plug/traces/south bridge (less likely and even lesser still) on the motherboard, hence why I linked to a sata drive.

Ya, I have an extra one laying around, but have 5 SATA HDs in there, so I'll have to pull one.

System burns to a USB2 attached SATA drive. Still fail on the PATA drives. Will attach one of them to USB2 and see if they work.

Guessing it's the ATA controller on the Asus.
