Computer keeps restarting!

ok guys.....my computer has recently been acting up and it keeps restarting for some reason.....it is not a cooling problem because my case is open...

also......just yesterday.....my computer shut off........i turned it back on.....it shut off......then i held the power button....and white smoke started coming out of it....i immediatley disconnected everything and on further inspection.....my speaker wire (the computer spkr wire) was burnt to a crisp.....i have no idea why!!?!....

can someone pls help me....its really awkward and i need my computer for a project :( :(
 
Sounds like a dead Power supply, i had one comp do that exact same thing.

It would restart itself, then finally woulnt start at all. I took the power supply out looked inside the unit and saw a capacitor that was blown.
 
Definitely sounds like a bad PSU. It's possible that the PSU has taken out the motherboard as well now (or a portion of it anyhow).

Unless you have a REAL REAL shitty case, and no case cooling at all, your system will cool better with the sides ON. Cases are designed to move air from an enclosure, not from a partial enclosure.

Anyway, your problem does sound like the PSU just went. But seriously, if your case is cooler with the side off, you have other serious issues to attend to as well.
 
i have an inwin Q500......i just keep one panel off because i am usually tinkering with something or other inside the case....

one more thing......the psu is not dead....it still starts up the computer and the computer boots.....but it just keeps restarting..

would this still be a power supply problem??

If while under full load, if the PSU cannot keep a continuous amount of Power to the System, it is going to restart.
 
its not an issue of the psu being dead or not, its an issue of it being good or not.... if its fried, but still gives power, then it MAY take out any number of other hardware out with it (mobo, HDD, fans, cpu... ext)


the burnt to a crisp wire could be too much current threw that wire, or it could be that you have that wire against something realy realy hot (do you)

what psu are you using? and how much do you have hooked up to it?
 
It's your headphones. Get new headphones and problem solved.

Or it could be the PSU, but I'm going with the headphones theory.
