i have a antec truepower 480w.... i calculated things on that takaman calculator and the amount of amps i have running is like barely anything for my power supply... it freezes up and sometimes it does a hard reboot. im NOT using a UPS... im connecting straight to the wall with all of my computer stuff....

would buying a ups do anything?

you need a surge protector. itll stabilize the power from the wall. its only $10-15 for a decent one and would protect your equipment from electical surges.

getting a surge protector with phone, cable, and network protection is optional IMO but if you think about it, the cost of a surge protector is small compared to the value of the components its protecting. i would recommend getting surge protectors for any valuable electronics you have not just computers (tvs etc).

A little more information would be very helpful.

Are you over clocked? What components are running in the case (drives, ram, pumps, lights etc.)

Sometimes all it takes is one component that is on the bleeding edge to cause a reboot.

For instance, this machine as configured will do anything I ask at 210 FSB, but, at 211 I can run prime95, folding at home, memtest all at the same time with no issues, until I open IE. IE, or some attached process will cause the problem. At 210, I can run everything on the computer with no problem. Changing from a 420 to a 600 watt PSU makes no difference.

Isn’t this stuff fun? :D

Also, everyone should have a good UPS for many reasons.
