Computer folding slow

I just downloaded folding at home on my new computer (E6750, 2 gigs of ram, 8800 GT, no overclock) and its folding really slow. My 1.6 ghz celeron laptop is folding faster. The work unit I have is p3696_seq15_amber03_gromacs core, if that means anything. The program is utilizing core two to around 80-100%, and core 1 is only being used about 10-20%.

Its saying the workunit will be done in around 31 days, so what is causing it to go so slow. Also, what version should I download. I heard there are some that use the graphics card, which are faster.
 
It varies on the person. I use the single core client too because I need the other core for streaming encoding on my E6600. If your still on your first percentage, then I wouldn't worry too much, the first couple percents will show a high time to complete, but after a while, it will drop down a bunch.

Also, some of the gaming (looks like you do) may affect the time completed. I should only slow it down slightly though. You can't use the GPU client since it's not an ATI card either.

Folding is simply using your spare computer power to fight diseases like cancer or parkinsons or alzheimers.

We have a team sponsored by HardOCP that happens to be the best in the world. The DC sub forum is where our team meets and talks about folding and fighting these diseases.

The more computer power you devote to fighting the diseases... then the more points you and your team collect. When I say that we have the best team in the world... that is because we have the most points of any team in the world.

I have been folding for 2.5 years. I have all of my computers folding 24/7 (except when I game, which I don't do enough!!!)

Hang around here... maybe you will start foldilng too! We would love to have you on our team!
 
I'm either going to seem gullible for believing that or like an asshole for saying this. Are you serious? What do computers have to do with diseases? (besides medical field computer equipment)

No problem if you don't understand it.

What this program does, is use spare computer cycles, to solve problems for the medical community. Think about all the research you could do with a supercomputer. You can gain tons of information. The only problem is, super computers are too expensive, so its possible to break the program up, and distribute it to millions of computers, and each one combined is as powerful or more powerful than one supercomputer, at essentially no cost. Its really no different than SETI@home if you have ever heard of that.

The Folding@Home program simulates the physics in a protein chain. Proteins fold a certain way to perform live-sustaining functions. When they fold the wrong way, bad things happen like various forms of cancer and other diseases. By simulating how the proteins fold, we can gain insights into how these diseases happen, and hopefully how they can be prevented or treated.
 
I am a server admin for about 6 elementary schools with about 1200 computers at my disposal. I wonder if "Folding" would even be noticed on them
 
I believe FLECOM also does such work, and he is our biggest producer. He should be able to comment better on performance on school systems.

Well, there's only one one way to find out. You can attempt a trial run with say a dozen computers, and if it runs OK, proceed to add more until you arrive at a practical limit.

Say 1,200 rigs all running a single client outputting 100-200 PPD which would equates to 120k-240k PPD... Whole lot bunch of points there...

Alright, when you set up the client, if you do not enter a team number, it'll presume 0 as the default. The team number of the [H]ard|OCP is 33. We'll be glad to guide you through the whole thing, start small so that you know what exactly is it that you need to do and familiarize yourself before going out and have it on all 1.2k rigs.
 
Also be sure to ask for permission to do this from your higher ups...
