Computer Crashed Now Nothing

Alright computer is that posted in my Sig.

I havent changed anything on my computer in 2 weeks. The first week everything was going fine and a game CoH would only crash maybe once or twice after extended (4+hours) of gaming. My computer was prime95 stable, used memtest86, had the latest drivers for everything. This was an on going battle with CoH since I got it.

This week, I was crashing a lot more. So, I signed on and was prolly playing for about 20 minutes. I was just getting a mission started with some people so I took a short afk so I didnt have to afk during the mission. I come back to my computer and just I type 1 letter to say back, the game crashes. Was a normal crash and I had to reset my computer.

No biggie, I restart, everything is fine, start the game again. I get two sentances typed and bam crashes again.

I reset the computer again and figured I would take a look in the bios to make sure nothing voltages and temps were ok. Was in the process of hitting the 'del' key and got the words 'Entering Bios....' at the bottom of the post screen when the screen goes into power save.

Try another reset, monitor still in power save, no post beep.

Hold power button, turn it off, let it sit for 5 minutes. Turn it on nothing.

So, far, I have cleared the bios to no avail, unplugged everything from the board except the cpu and turned it on. It won't even beep, so I have no idea as far as error codes.

I have tried with just memory and with just a video card, and then with both of those and nothing else plugged in.

No beeps, and monitor stays in power save.

I tried a Geforce 3 card in it with no luck either. I was going to test the video card in this machine, but I figured I would try and get help first before I mess this machine up too.

I don't have another board to try the ram in since this was my first upgrade to ddr.


Any suggestions would help. I have really run out of ideas on what to do.

Is anything turning on like fans? If not then it sounds like the power supply. Also you might want to check to make sure that the motherboard isn't shorting out on the case. Take out the guts and place it on a cardboard box. Most people use the box the mobo came in and try to power it up. If it works then you have a short somewhere.

Yes, the fans all power up. LEDs and everything too.

Like I said though I havent moved anything in my computer in 2 weeks. It has been sitting next to my desk not moving. No one else touches or goes into my room for that matter so everything is exactly where it has been.

I am going to try and reseat the cpu, so I might as well try it outside of the case like you suggested.

If anyone has aim they can message me at 'thethunderguy' since I am sitting right here with my other computer as well.
 
Try clearing your CMOS. Go to your mobo maker look at the manual for your board on how to reset it.

B)try a new monitor
C)try a new PSU
D)try differnet (older, non-DDR) RAM
E)Make sure the p4 pin connector ("boot loader/power" for the CPU) is plugged in, most people think it's only needed for the intel P4's, but it's needed for some (i.e., mine (at least)) A64 motherboards.

Tried 1-3

I am using the same monitor for this computer, since I never ended up buying a second one. This is just my backup pc.

PSU is next on my list. I think I have one around here with the extra p4 connector.

I don't have any other RAM that will work in this board. So, the normal try swapping stuff is really killing me right now.

I Cleared the CMOS already, as my original post said.

I just pulled the motherboard out and pulled out the cpu. Everything looks fine on the outside, no scorch marks or anything. Heatsink was definitly making good contact too.

I am going to re-seat the cpu and go through 1-3 again and hopefully get something to work.

Still nothing

I had a 300watt psu but it didnt have a 12v 4 pin plug, but I tried it anyway.

Would power up the board and cpu fan, no post or beeps of any kind with the ram, or either the 9800 or geforce3

The computer I am using is a
1.2 t-bird
abit kt7a-raid
gig of pc133 ram

My next question, is it safe to even try putting the radeon into this machine to test it?


With no beeps from the shuttle board its making me think its the board. Because usually if something is wrong it will beep for no ram or bad video or something. But, it just refuses to even make a sound.
 
Putting your Pro in the other case shouldn't mess anything up, unless you drop it on the way to swap it.
 
Sounds like its RMA time for the mobo. See if you can get another mobo and try that one out.
