Hey all,
So I currently have the following computer speaker system, http://store.cambridgesoundworks.com/dp/B004GV0C16, and I've been playing around with the idea of upgrading them (also the damn power cord in the sub keeps falling out which is so annoying). I currently play alot of rock/hardcore/punk/trance music and recently I've been getting into dubstep (electronic music) but I am by no means a basshead but would love a system that would also accommodate some dubstep (which might require a sub later or something). Anyway just some background info on my me I've been an aspiring audiophile (or more appropriately a headphile) for around 10 years. I'm looking for a pair of speakers with clarity and neutrality which is what I look for in my headphones. I say aspiring as I have yet to fully dive into it, I play music from my computer or and haven't fully transferred over my mp3 collection into FLAC files. Currently I just play computer games, listen to music, watch anime, watch Amazon Instant Videos/Blu Ray movies on my computer. I currently use the following external sound card on my rig, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102032, and would prefer not to get a new amp unless it's very necessary. I hear the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi HD (the sound card I currently have) is pretty solid for the price and as an entry level sound card. My big daddy headphone purchase as of the last couple years was a pair of Sennheiser HD-650s. I love the HD-650s, I drive them from that Creative card and it seems to work just as well as the headphone amp I had previously. The run my Cambridge 2.1 speaker system from that Creative sound card I posted above via the RCAs in the back. I'm a pretty big nerd when it comes to headphones and I would like to have a solid computer speaker setup to match when I don't feel like putting the cans on. I was originally thinking about getting another pair of headphones but then i was listening to the Home Theater Geek podcast and came to the conclusion that 6 pairs of high end headphones is probably enough (check signature if you're curious) so why not upgrade my speakers . I'm currently eyeballing the Audioengine A5s and maybe add their S8 sub later on. I'd say my budget is $500 max and i don't care if the system you suggest is 2.0 or 2.1 or w/e, as sound quality is my main goal here. Any suggestions would be wonderful and thank you in advance for your time on this.
