Hey Everyone.

I have a question and dont know if this is the place to post, if not. i apologize.. Well I had a problem with my computer recently and it was caused due to memory problems and hard drive problems. well. because of that i have just purchased a 80 gig maxtor hd and a 512 meg pc2700 stick. i put them both in and hook up all wires, and when i attach the Power Cord, the computer starts automatically and nothing comes up on the screen - all the fans are working and the computer is aswell. but nothing on the screen and when i push the power button in the front, there is no response - it doesnt seem to work. so now the only way to make the computer stop is taking out the power cord from behind the computer. i m really confused about wat could be causing this. Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Turn it on using the bare minimum (CPU, mobo, PSU, RAM and video card). When it boots up, do you hear any beeps? What are your system specs and what PSU do you use? If you turn it on and don't get any beep codes, and your PSU isn't the problem I would guess the motherboard is dead.

Oh yeah you should also try resetting the BIOS.
 
ok. i hook up the power cord with only (cpu,ram,vid card, psu) in my computer. i do not hear any beep noises. here are the specs:-

Athlon XP 2000+ @ 1.6 Ghz
Epox 8k5a2
512 MB PC-2700
Sparkle PSU - ATX - 300GT

anything else u wanna know let me know. ( how do i reset the bios )
 
I dunno if resetting the BIOS would do anything, unless changes were made before it stopped working. but it can't hurt to try. Your motherboard manual should tell you the exact process to reset it. Hit the switch in the back of the PSU (or unplug it) then locate the battery on the motherboard. Next to it should be a jumper. Take the battery out and move the jumper from [1-2]-3 to 1-[2-3], then set it back to its original position, [1-2]-3. Put the battery back in and it should reset to defaults.

The PSU you have is 300w? If it is and it's not that old I doubt it's a power supply problem, but you could check the voltages with a multimeter or swap it with a known working one.

Lastly, if you have access to another motherboard that can support the components, you could swap motherboards to see if it boots up.
 
i tried reseting it. but no luck. still nothing on the screen - all fans, cpu fan and cd drives seem to work. ( u really think it could be the PSU ). well, i m gonna order a mobo tonight. lets see wat happens. ill try to get a new case aswell. thanks for the quick replys though.
 
alright. got a new mobo just now and guess wat. lol. the mobo was fine. the problem seems to be in the PSU. lol. so now i m gonna go get a new case. hopefully that should be the problem. once i fix this problem. gonna get myself some toys to play with, and get my case some mods. :D well thanks alot for ur time bro. ;)
