Just thought it was a good idea to create a thread for those new to computer building (myself included) as a reference to common beginners' errors and what to do to avoid them. While certain building aspects go without saying (grounding oneself before handling parts, etc.), I'm sure that there are plenty of other things that could easily be overlooked and potentially become lessons learned "the expensive way".

I think we need a "General Troubleshooting" thread instead. Common mistakes could be found in the build guides listed in the current sticky of GenHard.
