I am a photographer and am looking in the next 1-3 months to buy a monitor to be used as my primary monitor for making choices about color and all the rest. I have a calibration system (optix xr pro) so that is not an issue. I am looking for a max price of around 1600-2000. I was going to get the Eizo CE240W but have been reading about some issues with fade to the left of the screen for that. What are the recommendations that people have out there. I have been reading a lot of the threads around here, but wanted to bring everything into a more central discussion. Thank you.

Eizo's use some sort of VA panel. VA panels have horizontal color shifting. You'll want an S-IPS, AS-IPS, A-TW-IPS, or H-IPS...basically any variant of IPS technology, not just standard "IPS".

The monitor travbomb recommended looks like it would be perfect, but I'm not sure if it has a glossy screen or not. I don't think it does. A glossy screen would make your contrast more vibrant, but less color-accurate.

That Eizo is not a very good monitor and definately not worth the money. Something like the NEC would be very well suited provided it lives up to how good it looks on paper.

I think if you say Eizo, you need to be more specific, like which model? The more affordable ones (e.g., S2410W-K) or the more expensive guys built for graphics designers. The more affordable monitors appear to be trying to be more "all-purpose" monitors.

What are then a few that i can be looking around at. Obviously the NEC 26" display mentioned above, but are there any others that people have and really like? How will it and the above mentioned monitors do with color when compared to the Eizo (minus the odd shift on the left). Also, where would be a place that I could go and see one. I would really like to try some of these out. I am in the midwest. Thanks.

Well you definitly need to use an S-IPS display and in above 20 inches there really arent alot of options. NEC makes a 24 and 26 inch S-IPS displays but other than that no one is using these panels yet.
