Is it possible to in some way adjust and regulate the voltage to a cold cathode so it pulses?

nah, i dont think so... i think its like a floursecent tube where you have to have the proper amount of electricity or it wont light up properly... however, CCFLs require an inverter, i dunno if you're talking about changing the input 12v or the output of hundreds of volts

just trying to figure if it will work at all. I have noticed car lighting made to pulse and thought it would really look good in a pc

wait, pulse?, as in like beats?... yea, that can be done... i thought u meant like running it at like half the voltage or something and i compared it to those energy saving tube lights

I bought one of these a while ago, which hooks up to the line out of your sound card and can be set to pulse with the sound output. Saw the same one in Fry's the other day too if you're interested.

I was looking into the sound activated ones also, but I dont necessarily only want it to pulse to music/sounds.

if you dont want it to pulse to music/sounds, then what do you want it to pulse to?

just the ability to make it slowly pulse at an even steady rate

Do not attempt a voltage regulator/rheobus. LImited the voltage to a CCFL is supposed to kill it -- I say supposed to because this seems to be a concensus although nobody has set out to blow $20 and prove it that I know of yet.

eh, i got that one from fry's awhile ago. it burned out 2 minutes after installing. hm while on the topic, anyone know how to fix it? i know nothing about that stuff, would be nice to get it working. :(

!!!

I've been looking for something like that for a long time! I have one already and it KICKS ASS. Is that one any good? Do you think I could buy that kit and switch it for another tube if it burns out? If that sound card controller is as good as the one I have, it's definetly worth it.

Mine has worked for for almost a year now. It would probably be a pain in the butt to replace the light though, as it is hard-wired to the inverter. You'd probably have to strip the rubber sleeve off the wires, cut them, and splice them to a new light.
