The cod2 demo runs like a dog on my system i cant believe this!!! All my other games run fine it must be poorly optimized maybe?? Im getting 15-25 fps according to fraps...

COD2 settings
1280x1024, AA off, bilinear filtering, vsync off, lighting and models set to normal, smoke is world only, tried EAX 3 and miles no diff.

What the hell is going on here shouldnt it be higher frames?

Specs...

dood... with my radeon 9000pro, i get 22 fps average on BF2. i think you people are a little... i think you spoil yourselves.i seem to do fine.

try forcing it to direct x 7 mode it doesnt look much differ3tn but its a world of dif in performance

That sounds about right. The game is only beta, and is in early stages, so yes it is rather poorly optimized. I wouldn't worry about that too much.

Why don't you overclock your CPU if you want extra frames? Your RAM should easily be able to handle it.

Those FPS sound about right, I get from 22 to 30 fps with 1280x1024 4xAA and everything else on max, dont remember if vsync is on. System on sig, overclock maybe ? :p

there is already a thread about COD2 performance and from what i can tell its a bug in the game. ive seen that it has 8xAF(i think) set as default and the textures are higher at below 1600x1200.

I actually don't believe it's a bug. Sure they may optimaize the game some more before it's released, but I really doubt it's a bug. While browsing the boards, I read that people were taking performance hits and I thought "Great, another Doom". Once I downloaded, I pretty much maxed everything out, with the exception of running it at 1280x1024 and only 4x AA.

I did NOT experience a performance hit at all. It ran incredibly smooth on my machine, which is odd, as users with a 7800GTX said it was choppy. The only thing I can think of is that I was one of those people who upgraded to 2gb of RAM for BF2. It seems, just like in BF2, 2GB of RAM makes a difference in COD2 as well and I'm sure it will in future games to come.

I maxed all the settings at 1280x1024, and while my fps was low (15-20fps) it didn't feel like it. It wasn't choppy at all to me except a little bit when it was pure smoke everywhere.

Sys:
3000+ Venice @ 2.4
2x512 Corsair Value 3200 @ 220
Chaintech VNF4 Ultra
MSI 6800nu (stock)

In any case, obviously it would be better if it came out and looked like it did and got a gazillion fps. Everyone here wishes that were true and so do the guys who made the game I bet, but unfortunately that's not the case. Luckily for both sides it's a pre-release demo, which should give them a lot of feedback on what needs improvement, allowing them to get the game up to speed for the real release.

runs fine on my b0x...granted i didnt have a fps counter, but i never noticed a slowdown 1280x1024 all junk set to high, 4xaa...smooth as butter or something to that effect..tho i never finished it i did play it for a half hour (blame the drinking) and i enjoyed it very much. excellent quality graphics and smooth play....meh....seems ok on my end

Ran smooth as silk on my Athlon XP 2500+, 512MB DDRRAM, unlocked
and overclocked 6800LE.

4AA, bilinear, everything else pretty much default

forced dx7 tripled my fps on a mobility 9700

I never ever ever ever judge the way my system runs on a demo. pure and simple, they aren't the finished, polished product. It's simply there to give you a taste of the game, not to benchmark your system. If all your other games run fine, then the demo is purely running like one would expect a demo to run.
so no need to worry :)

Ran smooth as a babies ass for me. XPS2 with 2GB RAM here.

I was runing on dual LCDs too... Even when i ambushed a group of 5 people wih smoke all over i never went under 25FPS... hmmmm :D

I've got 2GB of RAM and two 7800GTX in SLI along with my X2 4400+ @ 2.5GHz. I still see only about 30fps in most scenes.

First Fact: SLI will not work with this demo no matter what settings you choose within the game or in the NVIDIA control panel.

Second Fact: Many are saying (and I agree) that this demo doesn't seem choppy even when the fps drops below what most would consider unacceptable.

Third Fact: A lot of people are saying that they get very good performance even on slower rigs.

Fourth Fact: A lot of people with uber-rigs are saying that they are getting slow performance.

Fifth Fact: Some are pointing out that shadows are missing completely for X800XL users.

What can we determine from these facts?

Well, one could argue that a lot of the people who are claiming great performance aren't actually using CG_DRAWFPS 1 to see their actual framerates. Because this game seems smooth even at 20-30fps, there may be a lot of people claiming great performance based on this perception, while their fps are actually quite low by current standards.

It also seems that some people are seeing great performance because certain cards aren't rendering shadows and possibly other effects. These people, likewise, may not notice this and say that their performance is wonderful.

Finally, it also seems clear that, being a pre-release demo, there is still some work to do where performance and driver compatibility is concerned. The fact that SLI doesn't even work no matter what is tried points to the possibility of considerbal gains in performance (for both SLI and non-SLI) in the future. We're dealing with a work-in-progress here!

That's my take on it. Either way, I don't think it's worth getting excited over until we see the final code.

I agree with everything you say. But what seems funny to me is EVEN though the game is running smooth, people are complaining that they're getting 25 or 30 fps. Why or better yet who cares? Sure, when a game is performing horridly and you're getting low FPS, then I'd be concerned. However, if the game is running smoothly, then obviously somethings wrong with the code when it comes to calculating the FPS. But hell, if it runs smoothly, screw the numbers, at least that's how I see it.

It seems that this demo "auto adapt" the configs for your video card with options that you can't change no matter what, therefore you may have good frames with your old card, but it seems that it isn't rendering the same thing that a top dog is...

that's what many said...

Good point, too many people say "mine runs smooth as butta, somethings wrong with your system!!". They never provide any numbers or graphic settings too support there claim, it just "feels" like high fps to them.

I took a screenie during the boat destruction sequence.

36fps at 1024 all game settings maxed including AA/AF..

My point is, wouldn't the main goal be to have the game running smooth? If it runs smooth, but the number up in the top right shows "30", why get all upset?

As long as my game runs smooth, I could care less.

well some people ae not getting smooth runs, such as myself. with my system in my sig i tend to get between 5 and 30FPS and it s fairly slow running. it feels like everything is slightly delayed or in high speed slo-mo. this is how it is with any settings, at any FPS except when i enable DX7 mode. what this says to me is they either have some more bugs to work out, or they decided to turn the eye candy way up just to help sell a few extra copies of the game. im sure its more likely bugs with the demo rather than anyhing else.
