Hi all,

im in a difficult situation, i have a CM690 for christmas, but....

i have just WON a CM Cosmos from a Coolermaster, w00t!

My Dad has claimed whatever one i dont use lol.

so what do i keep - Cosmos or CM690.


i have heard of cooling issues with the cosmos which concerns me, i do like a little overclocking. but it is silent and is twice as expensive as the cm690!
 
I have a CM690 waiting for me back in MN been there cpl months but U think it's great looking so my votes for it.
 
i'm using a 690 right now; but i'd go with a cosmo if i could've afforded it when i bought this case.
 
If temps are your main concern, go with the 690. If you want a case that's very well-built, silent, and easy to work in, and you're not too bothered by the fact that you might have slightly above average temps in the case, then go with the Cosmos. Honestly, if I wasn't overclocking and didn't have any heat issues, I'd go with the Cosmos for the superior build quality and silence factor.
 
how do you mean above average temps, what we talkin, 1-2c. i live in the uk so ambient room temps are usually under 20c anyways.

im just not wanting to give my dad the better case of the two cause he will wind me up if it comes back to kick me in the ass lol
 
The Cosmos is a better quality case, and has much more room inside. The CM 690 is cheaper but has better ventilation, although it is more cramped then the Cosmos. I'd say keep the Cosmos hands down.
 
Use the Cosmos. Silent, and good design.
I'd get it if I had the money :rolleyes:

But I'll just have to stick with the one I got...

Above average as in a few degrees above what you might expect from a typical well-ventilated case. It's really nothing to worry about unless the hardware you're using has serious heat issues. Overall, I think the Cosmos is a better case.
 
I like the Cosmos a lot. If I were going to go back to air cooling, I'd go with that.
 
I also like the Cosmos.

Only thing I hate about the Cosoms is that awkward handle looking thing at the top. I like the bottoms as stands, but the top throws me off a bit.

Also if you can find a good paint for the outside, maybe Gunmetal or something, it would look sick. But thats more cosmetic and its more in the eye of the beholder.

We actually demoed a custom built rig built of the Antec 900 and Cosmos side-by-side at my store and used the same components on both(E6750, P35C, 8800GTS SSC), and funny enough the temps were pretty similar when the all the Antec fans were at medium. It was about a 1-2 degree difference on idle and a 2-4 degree difference on load.

also how well wil lthe gpu funnel thing work with a 8800GT since it doesnr exhaust air out the back?
 
TBH the temps and stuff aren't going to make a difference. They both have good cooling anyway. Personally, I would used the CM690, and spend the money saved from the Cosmos elsewhere. Alternatively, why don't you wait until you get both and see which you prefer?

i dont know when it will come as im unsure how long these things take, but i already have the CM690 but now i know that the cosmos is coming i can happily wait.

my brothers build was a CM690 case and it was great(temps, looks etc) but it was a bit noise with only the standard fans, i have 4 2k rpm ones to go in:eek:

im really just wanting to make sure i can reack 3ghz on my quad without really going over 55c load, which im hoping with the TR120E and the cosmos i will achieve.

also i dont wanna cook my gpu.

Sorry, I was meant to say saved as in the money that you received. Just my bad wording.

Really, don't worry about the temps. The G0 is rated at 72C, so you should be fine, with a decent cooler you should get at least 3.4ghz, with a great cooler, 3.7+.
 
I'm actually transfering my rig to the Cosmos now. It's a decent design, but as with all cases I can find a shit load of flaws. First off, wire management sucks. The P182 and P190 are far better in that regard. You can use about any size power supply in the world with the Cosmos which is awesome. There is no active air cooling on the hard drives. That pisses me off. There is a fan that you can move up to that area that's normally housed in the bottom. It would exhaust air from the drive cage to the inside of the case however and cost two 5 1/4 bays. Not the best design. You can also re-orient the fan inside and direct it down on the drives, but the other flaw still exists (taking up two drive bays) and you'll be down one cooling fan at the bottom of the case. You can of course put any fan down there as there are proper holes down there, but unfortunately you lose the ability to control air deflection as you'd be using the air deflection housing up above the drive cages as there is no other non-ghetto way to mount it. There are some swiss cheese holes on one side of the drive cage and you can mount an 80mm fan there with no drilling, but anything larger is right out without modification.

I'll say this: Water cooling enthusiasts should really take a look at this thing. Mounting a triple rad or a triple rad and a second dual rad internally is very do-able here.

So in short if they added some channels for wiring on the back of the motherboard tray and added a better way to mount fans on the drive cage it would be close to perfect.
