Cleaning with Turpentine?

Just wondering if that's ok to use since I don't have alcohol cleaners in the house. The stuff I want to remove is stock Intel grease.
 
It will take it off.... but I wouldnt suggest it. Who knows what else it will take off if you spill it or get it on any of the other parts
 
Bad idea... It's oil based and will leave a nice oily residue on everything you put it on... Which will make your TIM worthless...
 
The Mineral Turpentine was evaporating rather fast and I couldn't see anything left so I thought it was clean?

Anyway I thought it can't get worse so I used it anyway and applied some AS5. Idle temp went down by 5C and the air exhaust feels warmer.

The CPU was quite concave and I noticed that the edges actually managed to cut into the heat sink! It left 2 corners with clear dent in the copper.

This is a laptop that used to have overheating problems in the summer. I guess I'll try get some alcohol based stuff in the future.

Perhaps even get some fine grits and lap it?
