Cleaning the thermal paste from CPU!!

Hi, this is the first time I am removing the thermal paste from a CPU. I have just bought an XP90 and AS5. I need to get rid of AMD's paste from my A62 3200+, and also clean my new XP90. I have found the following items and was wondering if they will do a good job:

lint free wipes - http://www.consumables.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=300063

isopropyl alcohol - http://www.consumables.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=300054

Will I need anything else to clean the patse off, or will these two do it?

All help and opinions would be most appreciated

I'm not familiar with those exact products but probably about the same as I use here in the states. I use the lint free wipes for cleaning eyeglasses and a bottle of isopropyl alcohol that we can get at about any store.
 
Just go to a local store and pick up some 91% or greater Isopropyl Alcohol and then just put some on something like tissue paper and use it to wipe off the CPU.

jk, 91% or higher and a normal rag would do
 
if you can't find any 90%+ isoprop. alchohol, Goo Gone also works very well and won't leave any residue
 
Is that the same stuff we use to clean our ears????? Wouldnt that leave bits of fluff behind??

Yes, we clean our ears with it. And in my experience, it cleans cpus just fine. I cleaned off a really old crusty piece of a thermal pad from a socket 423 willamette with some alcohol and a q tip.
 
I use coffee filters (white, Mr Coffee). They are lint-free. Over a dozen builds and not one problem.

Plus I can use them to make coffee :p :p
 
I am having real difficulty finding the alcohol at any local stores. Its quite expensive at the above site, and I was wondering if anyone in here from the UK gets it?? If so, from where??
Have checked B&Q, pharmacies, local hardware stores - everyone is giving me blank looks when I ask for "cleaning alcohol", and really odd looks when I explain that it is 99% proof!!!

In many electronics stores, you can get No-Residue contact cleaner...it's meant for electronics, and evaporates completely leaving nothing but a clean die...
 
Dude...get a rag and some sort of cleaner..409, Windex, etc. I have used those and many others and they work just fine. NO need for some type of special shit.

I just used some 70% proof alcohal. That is all the store had, used it today, and didn't have any problems.

Yeah a simple paper towel and 91% or higher alcohol will be fine.
 
Its all about acetone... Stuff may make you pass out and die if you use it in a small closet with no vetalation, so it's gotta be good ! :D
 
I use 70% isopoopoo alcohol and it's fine. You could probably lick it off and it'd work just as well.
 
Any UK ppl in here? If so, where do you get it from??? There must be someone from UK who uses isopropyl alcohol!!!
