i just cleaned my comp fans and the..uh....grill-type things in front of em, and all the dust out of my pc, but i cant get to the psu fan. i dont want to open it up, cuz that would void the warranty no? and plus, its dangerous to open up your psu is it not? so would i just have to deal with a super dusty psu fan?

I just open it up, while its unplugged (and has usually been unplugged for a good hour or so), and be careful.

You could also use compressed air to remove some of the dust...

Can of compressed air and a vacum cleaner to suck the dust coming out will work just fine. No need to open it really.

nah...I opened PSUs numerous times so as long as you use common sense everything should be just fine...

For complete peace of mind, flip the switch in back 50 times, and let it sit 24 hours unplugged. If your impatient, just dont touch the huge caps and your life shall be spared.

I think 24 hrs is a little overkill. The caps won't keep their charge for that long.

Well I read online before 24 hours to be completly safe, and due to my limited knowledge of electronics beyond basics I assumed they were correct.
If anyone can give a technical perspective that would be interesting.

Ok, take HUGE precautions when atempting this cause a PSU can hold a charge for years like a monitor. Google some dirrections off the net and make sure there legit. I would take anyones word here cause were all crazy like that.
I have taken many PSU apart and did suffer 1 bad burn when I was shocked, so thats my fair warning if you don't want to melt your fingernail like I have before. :)
When I say years I mean the charge would normally be gone in an hour or less but I have read n the net of an old 250watt holding a charge for little over 2 years in a garage. The one I was shocked by was almost 6 months old and unplugged.

All I ever do is; unplug the psu and then turn the computer on.. Everything lights up and fans start spinning.. Lasts about a second b4 it has sucked the charge out... MOSTLY anyway.......
Not the safest way prolly.. But, if your careful to not touch anything inside except the fan you will prolly be ok.. Also, I've heard leafblowers work great too ;) ...
