Has anyone ever seen this

Router: 877w

The user has lost the login password for telnet / ssh etc

We went to rommon changed the config reg to 2142 and rebooted the router

It came in as you would expect at default, I then ran the usual "copy startup-config running-config" and we were in to the config.

I then noticed that this config was different to the config that loads when we boot the router with config reg 2102

All the interfaces where administratively shut down and the 5 hash was different on one of the users. As you can imagine this left us with a bit of head scratching to do. I reset the conf reg and rebooted and the router came back up ok.

All I can think is the router boots with a config that is not the startup-config

Thanks for that. I've done this many time and some how never come across this issue before. I'll give this a go in the lab.

Yeah the copy command and the replace command are cool. I wish they'd be more clear about what they do but at work we'll upload a large ACL to the flash and then do a "copy flash:/ACL run", it's a neat trick
