Choosing a PSU =\

Hey folks. I'm trying to find an ATX2.0 PSU, capable of running an SLI rig if I decide to upgrade in the future. The site I need to get it from is NCIX.com. Firstly I was going to go for the OCZ Powerstream 520w, but it's ATX1.3. Now I'm thinking about the ANTEC Neopower 480w. If all else fails, I'll get the OCZ Powerstream. I know that it's capable of running an SLI rig, but it would be a tad risky. Helphelphelp.

Fortron Bluestorm 500 watt psu

It is amazing! Compatible with new motherboards and cables are pre-sleeved!

Im using it now on my A64 rig and I love it!

that wont run sli. sli i recommend at least 600watts. assuming you going nvidia. nivida says the gtx will require 34 amps on 12 volt rail then you have all your other hardware. enermax and ocz and pc power and cooling make a power supply to handle sli.

If a 500 watt psu won't run an sli setup then how does a 300 watt psu in a shuttle when i had mine run a

200 gig HD
160 gig HD
DVD burner
6600 GT OC
A64 3000+ Winnie

a 350 watt psu runs the specs in my sig.. dual 6800gts suck a crapload of power...

NCIX? Seasonic S12-500 or S12-600. You'll get the dual 6-pin PCI-E power connections with those two models.

Brando, your Shuttle PSU runs all that because it's exactly that, a small-form-factor box. One PCI card to power, usually one or two (maximum) hard drives to power, everything onboard, etc. Not to mention they're very efficient as well. Just remember, watts don't mean everything.

ok then id say get one of hte psus you suggested

I'm going for NCIX because of the fact that they have a store across the street from me. I could get one at Tiger, as I am getting all my other parts there except the case and floppy, but I can't find anything too good on there, except maybe that Noisetaker.
Maybe another store in the Vancouver area?

Hehe, good call. I might go down there this week and back-order one as they don't have it in stock currently. Plus the price seems great compared to the Powerstream. I really liked how the Powerstream looked though, plus that intoxicating green LED fan =[ I want my Soprano to have some sex appeal when I get it. Perhaps I should get a cold cathode light now?

Anyway, thanks for the input mate. Looks like I will be going with the S12-500 unless I find something better in the price range.

Light your case, not your PSU! The Seasonics were never meant to be pretty... but I like them in their understated way. Some CCFL tubes would do a lot more for your case, my Powerstream 420W doesn't let any of the green light into my case.

I have one ccfl in my case and everything has a blue glow to it.. No clue what brand ccfl, but I've had it for over 2 years.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll probobly be picking up a Subeam CCFL when I get some spare cash. And I'll be picking up the rig next week =] Cheers.

you cant compare a shuttle pc to a full atx motherboard. a full atx has more room to expand which equals more power futher more he said sli. as far as i know there isent a shuttle sli board out there unless you know something i dont. have you read the power requirements of the new nvidia cards? they recommend at least 500watts for the gtx model.

Repeat after me: It isn't about the watts....it is about proper amp distribution :D
