chkdsk freeze

My chkdsk consistently freezes at 20% at stage 4 of 5.

I've chkdsk about 4 times and every single time i get stuck at this point. anyone know why?

The drive is probably bad.

Look at the SMART data with a program like CrystalDiskInfo.

Unfortunately chkdsk is an old tool, I've got the same problem on several drives that I wouldn't call bad (they might have a couple of bad sectors, but the purpose of chkdsk is to deal with that !). Is it a big drive ?
