Im looking for a chipset block that will mount on a DFI Ultra-D. Ive found a few but they are all over seas dealers and i cant seem to locate them in the us. any ideas?

The Aqua Tinplex SLI block will work.

Whats wrong with ordering overseas? I bought my chipsetblock from germany and it got here in like 5 or 6 days...
 
Big bore or small bore?
I wanna say that EK has a big bore solution for this, but I'm not sure. AC's block will do for small bore.

You have to contact them directly through email to arrange shipping to the US. A bunch of people here and in other forums have had nothing but good experiences with the shipping from slovenia. It is AFAIK the only block to fit the Ultra-D that can accomodate 1/2" barbs.
 
I have a stupid question, so bear with me. If a block is the most restrictive thing in the loop, how does tube ID effect the flow, assuming it's no smaller than the effective path through the block?

OT, I currently have the Twinplex (with 3/8 OD barbs) in my otherwise 7/16 loop because it was easy and quick to get hold of (from Sharka) when i did my build, but I'm intending to replace it with the EK. Hopefully before the pump blows up.

A small length of tubing wont effect the flow very much. But the restriction of tubing is proportional to its length. Long lengths of small diameter tubing is much more restrictive than large diameter tubing. In fact in many loops if you use 1/4" tubing it can become a significant source of restriction throughout the loop, which is what some people who are performance oriented try to avoid.

You have just asked the million dollar question that no one has ever been able to answer substantially to me before. What good does it do to have a gigantic tube if the path through the waterblock amounts to the equivalent of say a 6mm ID? Please also note that most all waterblocks force the water to go through several 90 degree bends as well so what is the big deal about using additional 90 degree bends where it is convenient to do so with the tubing?

Also why do people who have high flow setups don't ever seem too interested in finding out exactly what their actual internal flow rates are? Do they really see a flow benefit from the bigger tubes or not?

I think you have a valid point, but the OP didn't ask what tubing size to use, he asked for a chipset block. The EK wille probably be your best bet.

It looked nice. :) I was answering another poster and the Alphacool chipset block would also be another good alternative.
 
Question about the DFI Expert chipset fan...MCX159-CU i heard is a good, quiet air chipset HSF but I havent heard any real complaints about the MC30 or the DangerDen Maze4 chipset what would be a good chipset cooler for the expert? With this board, i dont have to worry about interference from the gfx card. I just dont feel like starting up a new thread :p
 
Is it really worth watercooling the chipset? I've heard arguments for either side saying it restricts flow and doesn't make as big a difference in temperature from air as say a GPU/CPU block would. Others say the chipsets on SLI boards run incredibly hot and could only benefit from watercooling the chipset.

Those that do WC the chipset would you bother doing it again, or would you just settle for
an aftermarket cooler like the Evercool VC-RE and Zalman, even the stock hs lapped and AS5 applied?

Bottom line does it matter greatly in that it will reduce temps by 5 degrees or more, or will it only lower the temps by 2 or 3 over air and restrict the flow where it starts hurting the loop more then gaining you anything?
 
Having had the Asus and DFI MB's, I would H2O cool them. I went through 4 fans, 2 on each MB. It's a real PITA to remove your MB for a chipset fan. The NB was always the highest temp on my board.
 
The MCW30 doesnt have any pins in it so restriction would be at a minimum, no? Anyone have any suggestions for good chipset blocks? the MCW30 and dangerden look to be good what do you think?

I replaced the fan on my DFI because it sounded like an air-raid siren, forever spinning up and down. Nothing else in the box came close to the noise it was making. I tried replacing the fan with some copper one I can't remember the name of, but that was almost as bad so when I put my apex kit in, i decided to get a chipset block.
In fact the temps didn't seem to drop a whole lot, it'll still hit 50C and I'm not convinced it's seated properly but as theseeker points out, it would be a big job to take everything out again so I've been putting it off. I have an EK on the way to play with, although I have no evidence that my current AC block needs replacing (other than the ugly reducers I had to use to fit it in the loop).

Can anyone point me at some sort of flow rate meter that'll go straight in 7/16? All the ones I've seen are for smaller AC/innovatek tubes.

You can get a swissflow infrared flow sensor and do some modding with a 1/2" T fitting to get a DIY flow sensor.
 
The chipset on my NF4 Ultra board gets really hot. Even with the huge Zalman block it gets hot to the touch without a fan on it, even then it's still not as cool as it should be. I'm waiting for a good deal on a chipset block so I can get one more fan out of the case. The EK block is perfect, but too expensive for me.

The flow rate in my loop is amazing. BOTH return lines from the RBX send a solid 1/2" stream of coolant into the reservoir. Every time I see it I'm amazed.

I get a nice stream with a Koolance Exos as well. ;) however, the real question is really what is the flow in a high-flow system. In case you were wondering I don't think the Swissflow is compatible with the Aquaero as the pulse per liter settings don't go high enough to accomodate the Swissflow. The guys at bit.tech.net know much more about this if you are looking for more information.
 
My friend suggested a chipset block to get that has angled in/out ports so its less restrictive...anyone know of any co that makes these?

or if you have the mc30 already you can raise the surface area by sanding the top of the base plate [the part that touches the water] with 80 grit sandpaper

Sharka has a lot of angled fittings. You might also try McMaster-Carr which is where I got my 45 degree push-fits.
