These are the changes for the 2013 race - for your info only.
1) You race as a whole with your team. No need to change your folding name or handle, or passkey. All your teammates are racing with you.
2) Points are hugely simplified. Gone are the several categories of the past two years. There are ONLY categories to handicap points, based (as much as data permits), on race history.
You have raw team points x handicap multiplier, x a percentage of 94%, to reach a final adjusted multiplier to bring all the teams up to EVGA's level. (Or whatever the most productive team is in the race), Hopefully it gives a nice balance. I designed this handicap system expressly to simplify and make it self-balancing - the better you raced last year, the harder it will be to repeat that win, this year.
Aside from basic handicapping, all the convolution of points from the past, are gone. The ONLY metric that counts is points. Points you earn in the race, and points you have earned in the previous CC races. (New teams I have to create a "pseudo race points" for their history. A bit more complicated.)
3) The race was moved to April to help cut down on the heat problem. We had hoped to have it in the first week of April, but it had to be moved to an April 13th start date (still at a Noon start).
4) A new racer was added: Vietnam Global Team. Very small team, but some very strong folders, also.
If you would like to discuss any problem you see with the above changes, please bring them up. (Here or in a PM, if you prefer).
The purpose is competitive fun, but it also easily extends recruiting and buzz for F@Home. We bring in folders who never fold for the rest of the year, just because they heard about it, and it sounded like fun/was fun last year.
I would welcome any suggestion on improving the race. I'm an OCF CC Captain, and the Chimp Challenge handicap designer this year.
And PLEASE, don't let EVGA get back into #1 team in F@H.
