checking if PSU is working

my friends gave me his Antec 300W PSU, and i want to sell it, but i have a Dell so i cnt check if it works. what is the best way to check if it works? is there a way to check without hooking it up to a mobo? can i just hook up a fan and see if it works? thanks in advance.
 
Get a short piece of wire, about 4 inches. Strip both ends, jumper between pin 14, the green wire, and any pin with a black wire. The PSU will start, the PSU fan will start turning.

a HDD will generally do

of course that isnt really "testing" other than a power on test
to check the supply youd need to really put a "typical" load on it
and then measure the rails with a Multimeter
to see if they where within compliance with the spec

your acceptable range for voltage regulation is 5%
+3.3V Orange 3.135V to 3.465V
+5V Red 4.75V to 5.25V
+12V Yellow 11.4V to 12.6V
