So last Christmas I received an Acer Aspire X1200 (pictured below) desktop computer. Although it just met my needs at the time (playing CoD: WaW), lately, it doesn't seem like it can handle any new games. Now I would like to upgrade it, however the case is extremley small (the picture might look deceiving) and there is literally no room for upgrades.

My question is, could I possibly move the parts to a different, much bigger case. and exchange the parts as I see fit?

Thanks in advance.

I see no picture. but verify is the mobo is a ATX, mATX or BTX design, and if the PSU cables are long enough.

I know HP cases a few years back had a non-standard screw layout on their power supply (only 2/4 screws lined up with 'normal' screw layout). Just be warned your acer PSU may not fit all the way.

I found a picture.

The motherboard is extremely short but it'll probably fit in a standard case, although looking kinda weird if you have a window.

Almost certain you will need a new power supply also.

Have you checked out the low profile video cards?

Something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814187061

The PCI brackets looks shorter than normal ones though according to the picture so I don't know haha.

from what i can tell in the picture is that its either a micro ATX or micro ITX motherboard.. but the layouts still strange.. you might have to use a mix of the ATX and mATX screw mounts since it looks wider then a normal motherboard..

like aZn plyR said.. you will need to replace the psu since it will not fit in any other case.. but you will want to look for any case that supports matx and atx motherboards..

You'll need a new case with PSU. I'd also consider upgrading the motherboard from the current socket AM2 to something that's AM2/AM2+/AM3+ to allow for future upgrades and more PCI slots and features.

Everything else should transfer over fine. What's your price range?

That board isn't ITX, it's DTX. The only case offhand that I know will support that is the Silverstone SG0-5, but that's not bad, because it comes with a PSU for it and it will support full length graphics cards. The PSU limits you to about a GTS250 or a 4850 though. The price of the case/psu is roughly $100. A 4850 will run you about $100 as well.

So something like that? ^

Seriously?

Yes, it's DTX which uses the same standoff format as ATX which means you can buy any M-ATX case or ATX case and it'll work.

That white SG05 is ugly.

If I recall correctly, the SG05 uses a standard ATX power supply, so it's possible to install a more robust power supply to support a high performance video card.

Not sure if it's just a bad picture, or if the SG05 really is hideous in white. I think the black SG05 looks good.

Yeah. Plus I'd like to move on to a bigger case.

That'd be my choice. Small form factors are appealing, but severely limit expandability. Actually, I'd probably keep the Acer SFF as a compact secondary machine, and build a new high performance rig.

Seriously was referring to the guy saying you only had one case option and it had to be DTX, not aimed at you...

He would be wrong anyway since both the SG05 and SG06 are ITX/DTX compatible. Seriously though I wouldn't go smaller than an ATX form-factor if you're going to upgrade. Get some good airflow for the video card and allow for upgradability.

You still didn't say what your price range is or what form factor you've decided on...

Yeah, I agree. The black looks great it's just the white one that looks like balls.
