What is the chances of me adding:
1. 9800xt
2. HD(SATA) x2

I use lots of splitter-y cables. I tried to hook a hd in exchange with the DVD, but the pc restarts every 3 minutes. It was stable when I unplug the CD-rw.
CD-rw & DVD-same IDE cable
HD1, HD2, same IDE.
HD3. Raid 0+1

The two more HD will go to the RAID (0+1).

Interesting. 400w should be able to handle it in theory... but it depends a bit on the quality of the PSU.

I never had problems running 2 fans, hd, zip100, 2 optical drives and a voodoo5 5500 off a 250w. CPU is <1ghz though.

That you're having reset problems as it is unless there's a drive unplugged may spell impending doom. If the reboot is a power issue then I don't think another two HD is going to help the situation.
 
I don't know if I'm getting it right but it seems like your PSU can't handle that much - if you have a case big enough - get yourself additional PSU (a 250W will do)
 
I'd seriously consider a new PSU...one with only two molex connectors probably is a pretty low quality PSU. 400 watts doesn't always equal 400 watts. Also, 18A is pretty low to be running 5 Hdd's plus all of the other stuff.

My Antec True430 cost more than my case + included 400 watt PSU, and weighs at least 3 times as much as the included generic PSU, and has lots of connectors.
 
The PSU has 4 molex. two main, the other two come branching out. There are also the floppy cable, & one cable which looks like power to the motherboard, but smaller, almost same size with the molex.
My i-cute casing does not allow an aditional PSU.
ADD:the monitor draws power from the PSU. Its a 17 inch CRT.

I ahve software that monitors the volts, but does not tell me if its enough, less or anything.

I use a Canonlide20(power from USB)
mouse-mx 700
generic keyboard.
Onboard ethernet.
s400sp canon printer.
Thats it.
 
CRTs can eat up a whole lot of energy... that's probably your problem. Or maybe your PSU simply isn't good, regardless of its total output.
 
So who made this power supply? If it only has 4 molex connectors, doesn't seem all that hot.

As for power load, the CRT drawing power out of the PSU is a big energy eater. CRTs can take over 100 watts to power depending.

And I agree, 400 watts in this case might not be 400 watts. It might only be rated for 400 watts at 25 C or something, and in reality could be much less.
 
Looks like your gone be pulling a lot of juice of a single cable I seen problems resulting with that.
 
My guess is it's a cheap PSU, and that's why you only have 2 molex strings coming out of it. I would recommend getting a better power supply that offers more molex connectors, like an Antec True430 or higher. You'll have more connectors, and still have enough juice to power everything.

EDIT: Someone care to explain to me how the monitor is drawing power from the PSU??????
 
The PSU is i-cute, came with the case. There are two molex, one motherboard, one (i dunno what wire) like I said before.
Actually, my main reason is afraid that not be able to upgrade to the 6800. I wanna play farcry. :cool: The hd will come a lot later.
BTW, all PSU's are the same size? No need special stuff?


I'll post some links soon, about power supply, not residing in US, I'll give my local choices instead.
 
Anything with the name i-cute should immediately be removed from your computer, if you have any hope of making it a powerhouse.
