Cerwin Vega?

Well, since I'll have to save up some money between my tax money and paychecks, I've got some more time to scope out good bookshelf speakers and hot deals.

A friend of mine has a Cerwin Vega sound setup. He claims excellent sound quality and suggested I look into their offerings. I found that their bookshelf speakers, the V-5Ms were in my price range ($100-$125 for a pair). What's the opinion on these? The current two I'm stacking these against in my price range are the Polk R15s and the Infinity Entras. I'm definatly down for more suggestions as well.

Internet-direct speaker companies offer the best bang/buck. AV123.com and Ascendacoustics.com are brands that I have auditioned and recommend.

Not bad at all, but if your paying more than $75 a pair for them , you're paying too much. I got mine for $40-50 a pair new from Fry's about a year and a half ago.

The bass is impressive for a speaker as small as it is, but the midrange is a bit weak compared to the bass and treble response, and the treble is a tad fatiguing for nearfield use. For a $50 speaker htogh it's great...for a $125 speaker...not so great. Consider for about $150 a pair you can get some athenas that will just wipe the floor with the V5Ms.

If you can solder, www.partsexpress.com look for the BR-1 kit. $140 shipped, $150 for a shielded model, and after the assembly (soldering and basica screwdriver skills), you have a huge, but very nice bookshelf speaker. I actually use these as mains in my bedroom system...and to tell you the truth, they are way overkill for a 11x14 room.

i bought a cerwin vega amplifed sub. 10" subwoofer. I got it about 5 or 6 years ago. i've had my stereo up to ludacris levels and only once have i heard it distort. My old jvc reciever sucks, so i'm sure it would sound even better if i had a lower frequency response coming from my reciever.

I am very happy with my CV sub at least. very impressive when you compare it to any sub that they sell at bestbuy, espically if you compare it to those crappy yamaha subs.

.....only have a cerwin vega sub though, so wouldn't be able to comment on bookshelfs

I dunno, I like the Yamaha subs...the sound quality of the bass is pretty decent.

Difference is Yamaha goes for SQ, Cerwin Vega goes for volume.

C-V has always had a reputation for tough and loud speakers.

I dont really like Cerwin Vega, because of the highs. They are usually not very clear. They have good bass though. Go with some nice Mission speakers.

Big vote for the Athena AS-B2's. You'll be very hard pressed to find a better bookshelf speaker at this pricerange. Go to you local BestBuy and have a listen for yourself!

Those Infinity's you linked aren't half bad, though I'd still take the Athenas over them. If price is a concern, you can get the slightly smaller AS-B1's.

Yea, that's not bad at all.. Bstock price on something that's already on sale Bstock is the way to go.. I've bought all my speakers Bstock, and it was a great way to save some serious cash.
