Ceramique VS. AS5

Hey, I have a huge tube of Ceramique which i've had for a while now, it's half full, and probably won't run out for a long while. I'm wondering if it's worth spending like $6 bucks for a small tube of AS5?

What are the temp differences between Ceramique and AS5?
 
when i went from AS5 to ceramique i saw no temp diffrence so if your lucky maybe 1deg, C but i don't think it is worth buying AS5 if you already have ceramique
 
I cant tell a diff in temps either. On the other hand ceramique fuses the heatsink to the p4 after a few days. After that when i try to remove the heatsink, the p4 comes along with it :eek: I find ceramique alot easier to put on, its more cremier, as5 is more like paste.
 
are you kiddin me? ceramique fuses them together? oh crap... I use ceramique... Found it to be easier to apply, but if it fuses them together.... looks like im gonna be buyin AS5....

I've had AS5 do the same, so don't freak out about it. It literally ripped my A64 out of the socket, with the lever locked! Lucky I didn't break my chip/board. All because of those damned heatspreaders...
 
is there any way to separate them then? cuz that really sux...

after using ASUS AI to look at my temps at load im gettin worried. im hitting 60 C and i dont feel comfortable. im starting to look at new cooling for my cpu to replace my stock cooling.

so far ive found two that ive liked the most.

and an XP-90 with a 92 mm Tornado.

both will cost me about the same price. what im worried about most is the temperatures. second is noise (already have 3 tornados)

depeding on the way you think about it
having it rip your CPU out of its socket is a good sign :eek:

it means it had a nice airtight seal on the CPU and thus.....good heat transfer
 
heat it up...

A. run the computer for a while, then take it off when it is still hot
b. use a hair dryer to heat it up first..

once it is hot.. carefully twist it .. just like taking apart an oreo

actually.. hjeating up an oreo would probably make it worse.. i didn't mean heat up an oreo.. i just meant that you had to twist the heatsink.. becuase it stuck on like an oreo.. or something ll blah.. you get what i mean..

now i wish i had an oreo so i could do some experimenting...
 
I run my Oreos under running water, but I don't think that will help get the HSF off. Heat 'er up and do the twist.
 
Looks like I won't be getting AS5 then, save me some money :)

I have also had ceramique pull my A64 right out of the socket while the lever was locked, after freaking out for a few seconds I gave the CPU a little twist and it came off.. no damage done.
 
ceramique doesnt bond stuff together, thats what the adhesive is for. Whats the white thermal paste arctic silver makes? cause thats by far the best of them all cause it doesnt have the effect of superglue when cold lol.
 
Its not horrable u guys. After you remove your heatsink AND your p4 in one motion, just remove the p4 like an oreo. Just twist ;) Atleast i know with ceramique that its not gona bake on, then dry out like ac5. You can never reuse ac5 after its baked un ( yet it performs better baked, thats why you temps go down after a few days), so if your heat sink should move a hair while moving the case( like my zalman 7000a) then your temps will go up 5-7c Cuz now the baked stuff has cracked and it wont fuse back together. hell you can keep using the same squirt of ceramique until you get dust or dirt in it.

Some it up. Once you remove the heatsink with as5, you have to re apply. Ceramique you dont.


oh does any one know the diff between ceramique and Alumina? I switched to alum ( yes still bonds to p4's) because i can use it with their thermal expoxy. Just ad one part Alumina to the mix and the heat sinks will come off easier if you should ever want to remove the heatsink.
 
I just started unlocking the socket to make sure I don't damage the cpu pins. remove them both easily and without fear of damage and seperate via the Oreo twist method. Much safer.
 
I use Type 44 hs paste. It works really well and is cheap to boot.

But it gave me a scare the other day. When I was taking my ICE (hsf) cooler off in my shuttle SFF.

The CPU stuck to the HSF. There's really no room to twist it. I tried sliding it back & forth a little, but when I lifted up and saw the empty socket I was scared shitless!!

I thought for sure a pin was going to be bent or broken off in the socket!! But they were all there and the CPU still worked fine.

Though when I put it back on I put some cheap white stuff one just b/c I didn't want to have a scare again. I guess next time I'll run Prime95 for a little while to really heat it up. But it was warm/hot when I took it off last time.
