Center Channel Problems

I have Creative Inspire 5.1 5300 series speakers. I have a strange problem with the center speaker. It seems like it works for some things, and not for others, and only when it feels like it. Just recently it had been working correctly and with everything. After I hooked them back up to my rig after coming back from a lan party, they're back to only working for some things. It works for games, and when i use the software to "test" that it is working, it registers that it is working by saying "center channel" through the corresponding speaker. This makes me tend to believe that it is a software issue. I Installed the latest drivers, but no luck.. It doesn't work for anything else, including system sounds and music.

If anyone has any incite or speculations on this problem, i'd be happy to hear them. Thank you.

What audio sources cause the centre channel to not operate?

If it's a stereo source it probably won't unless you use some sort of CMSS or CircleSurround option within your soundcard.
 
If you mean what i think you mean by "source", the only source is my computer. The center Channel does work if I tell the software to use "movie mode", but then the two rear channels sound like crap. I don't know why all of a sudden this happened, just from disconnecting them, and then reconnecting them.

By source I mean what content are you trying to play? DVD movie? MP3s? CD?

If you're trying to play an MP3 or a CD those are only stereo encoded formats, so they will only play over the left and right speakers unless you use something like that "movie" mode to pseudo encode them to multi-channels. Your soundcard mixer should have something called CMMS or something like that.
 
The source then, would be mp3's. Ok, i'll try to see if there is a CMMS function in the software somewhere. I don't understand though, why when i put it in "movie mode" the center channel then works, but the rear channels sound like they are distorted horribly. I'm not sure what's going on there.
