A few days ago I made a CD and the first 5 tracks or so were fine but the rest got progressively worse and had alot of odd sound to it. I reformatted Windows yesterday and tried to make another with another program and it did the same thing. Is this likely a sign of a failing drive.
 
1)Defrag HD

2)Check MP3s for deterioration.

3)Try different media.. Verbatim and Fuji are good.

4)Try a different burning app.. I suggest Feurio, which is shareware, and is very good for audio CDs.

That's odd, they are on the bottom of my list. I got a batch of Fuji discs that deteriorated over time (the shinny inner ring developed odd spots) and just bought a batch of Verbatim that I have to manually rotate in the CD tray just the right way or my burner just spits them out.
 
The Fuji discs you purchased, are they "Made In Japan" or "Made in Taiwan"? The Japanese ones are Taiyo Yuden (awesome quality) and the Taiwanese discs are Prodisc (yucky). Go for the Japanese Fujis, BB seem to have them in stock.

Verbatim.. did you buy DataLife PLUS discs? They are the better ones.
 
The FUJIFILM were made in Japan and they seem to be deteriorating. The Verbatim discs other than basic information, say nothing but "Verbatim".

EDIT: Yes, they are DataLife by Verbatim (found the packaging.) Another thing that I don't like about them is that when you write on them with a permanent marker, the ink beads-up and looks crappy.
