The other day I got a backup psu I had, an old case and motherbord (i'm talking at psu).

I cut the red, yellow, and black wires and stripped them, from a 4pin connector. Then I took a cd player I had laying around and connected the +12v ignition to the red wire, the +12v battery to the yellow, and of course the ground to the ground.

I didn't think it would work for the lack of volts from the psu yellow wire to the cd player, but amazingly the cd player turned on!

Granted no settings were saved, but it still worked fine.

I'm thinking someone could fabricate this into a 5 1/4th bay somehow, that would be a sweet mod wouldn't it?

Once I transplanted my CD player into a cookie tin. :p

Thats as far as I have gotten for CD player modding though ;p

I don't think so, but I could be wrong.

I think he is talking about a portable cd player.

My GF has done this with both a portable CD player, and my amp and sub from my former car... It works fine, except you have to fine tune your amp for the PSU or it will sometimes drain too much power but for the PSU to put out... I can get some pics as soon as our server gets back online but its a very simple setup that sounds good, even for a Kicker L5

Also I'm planning to install my old Alpine head unit on my own pc I love its sound quailty and can find a set up that will let me play my pc audio through it using the radio.
 
I've been planning a way to build my own compact flash based mp3 player into an altoids tin or some other similar container.

yeah been planning to next time we upgrade it but I dont think I need to because of the useage the sub gets.
 
Just add a cap--yeah, just make sure it's a pretty BIG cap (100's of uF) if you're driving any sort of good-sized subwoofer.
 
the sub is a Kicker L5 10 inch...The amp is a okay Sony Xplode 1600watt (I know it says 1600 watts but it sure as hell doesnt put out that much) it sounds good, I really think we will proably down the amp wattage and such... Dont think we will need the full wattage since at the time I was planning to run duel subs and such
