Hello,

Does anyone know where i can go to find say a bunch of cases and ratings on how well the design is for air flow??

also.. does anyone have a suggestions for cases that have very good air flow??

thanks

i think it's time for a new case.. my current case is too hot.. it's just a poor design..

Only thing i dont like about P180 is made out of metal.

Akasa Eclipse 62 is a fantastic case and with twin 120mm fans has great airflow characteristics. Another advantage is the lack of restriction on the airflow means its quiet

Yes, the Thermaltake Armor case is HUGE, but it made a MASSIVE difference in cooling over my former Coolermaster Wavemaster. If you like the design, you might consider the Armor Junior.

I am running an Athlon 64 x2 3800+ w/ stock cooler.

In the Wavemaster, I was running the following for cooling.

2x 80mm intake from front.
1x 80mm exhaust from rear
1x 80mm exhaust from top blow-hole
1x 80mm exhaust pulling into power supply
1x 80mm exhaust pushing out of power supply

My idle temps were about 97degrees for case, and 107 for CPU. Under load, case temps got to around 108-110 degrees and CPU 125 to 130 degrees.

In the Armor, I am running the following:
2x 120mm intake from front
1x 120mm exhaust from rear
1x 92mm exhaust from rear next to power supply
1x 92mm exhaust from top blow-hole
1x 80mm exhaust pulling into power supply
1x 80mm exhaust pushing out of power supply

Idle is 83 degrees in the case, 89 for CPU. Under load, case gets to about 87 degrees and CPU maxes out between 107 and 109.

Haha. Hey that's my review.

I honestly think it's a great case, despite all my complaints.
you know I gotta keep it real linking the your review!
I have looked at the Armor myself a few times it looks pretty nice. As I am moving back into a water cooled setup, I am ditching my Thermaltake Tsuanmi case and I getting this case here

I think I understand the aversion to plastic in the P180, but by sandwiching it between aluminum sheets I think they were going for its ability to dampen noise, and they succeeded IMO.

I got the free replacement for the front door, so my only issue was with the stock fans. After replacing them with nine-bladed, rubber-mounted Silverstones this case is great. With hard drives in the lower chamber it is easy to run the fans very quietly, even with two 7800GTX's (which have NVSilencers to keep their heat out of the case). It's virtually silent on air.

the P180 looks like a great case, i unfortuneately have not purchased 1. i really like the Antec Super Lanboy though. that is a real nice case. its light and quiet (depending on your heat sink of course).

Please don't consider this a hijack or a flame, just sheer morbid curiousity - but why do so many people make decisions based on a case's weight when they are never going to take the PC anywhere with them, in fact will probably never move it more than once or twice in it's lifetime?

Maybe if they're working/modding on their case a bunch then maybe weight could be an issue. Maybe it sits on a weak desk/stand or something...

It's kinda like when people agonize over what CPU cooler to get and then don't overclock. :D

getting another CPU cooler doesn't mean you should overclock. The main reason I don't use the stock AMD cooler is because of the noise; with a Scythe Ninja you can run your CPU with passive cooling compared to stock cooling and whining fan.

Good point.

Some people also like the looks if they've got a windowed case.

although its nice to have a LED fan on your CPU to "show off" - in the end you like to use your PC, not just stare at it. its good for pictures to let a product stand out, but in the end it doesn't really matter what it looks like, as long as it performs.

watch out for my next CPU roundup hitting the intarweb soon:)

Different strokes for different folks, dude. It's called "preference". Go to the case mod forum and tell all the modders their modding is useless 'cause their PC doesn't perform.
