Case upgrade?

So, I have had a Kingwin KT-424 case since it Jan 2004. I has served my very well for 8 years, but recently I have noticed that I need to replace the fans in it as they are making noises and not cooling as they once did. Also I have lost some of the special screws for it. I have tried looking across the net for replacements and tried contacting Kingwin for replacement parts, but cannot seem to find any.

I guess what I need to know is if I should try to just hunt down screws with similar specs and add new fans and call it a day or just buy a new case?
 
When you say special screws do you have pictures of them!?!? maybe you can find similar ones which would be cheaper then buying a new case =p i mean only problem is the fans right??? and you seem to like the case you have still so yea =p
 
Yes, upgrade your case. There are plenty of great cases available now. Give it a go.
 
Cheap bastage here. I say keep it. I have had the same Lian Li Case for over ten years, heh. Only thing that wore out was the power switch wires.

Why do people always use the word "upgrade" as if they need to justify their wanting to spend money on New Shiney? What, your wifey checking your posting history? :D

I'm of the New Shiney crowd. Ofc, I haven't wanted a new box since I got my MountainMods 2 years back.

Well, getting a new case would be an "upgrade" to my 8 year old case...and as I stated my issue, it would not be just wanting to spend money on a New Shiney...also my wife doesn't care what I spend money on, I make plenty enough.

How about dis, what does your current case not have that you want in layout or featureset? Apart from sheer fan size, your current Kingwin case resembles tons of ATX mid-towers still sold today by LianLi etc. AAMOF, the only reason I could tell looking at photos of your Kingwin that it wasn't a current gen LL was the fan size and the lack of removable motherboard tray.

Well, I really don't need any other layout or features(e.g. it has/is tooless, aluminum, sturdy, removable mobo tray), the Kingwin does just fine, just after having it so long things start to break or get misplaced. I am of the mind if I can fix it cheaper than buying a new one, then fix it. I think the fan sizes are fine, two front 80s, one rear 80. I have actually though about modding it a little on the rear for a larger fan.
 
A new case would run you ~$50-100. After you calc cost of fans and shipping and screws if you find, its just cheaper to get a new case that will meet your needs.
 
I know what you are going through. I moved from Lian Li PC-50 to Fractal Design Define R2 about a year ago an love it. So much easier to work in, better airflow (now modified to 140mm front fans), room for big coolers and GPU, etc.

R4 is present generation and very nice case.

I was lucky and found mine used for half the price of new. Fractal Design has great customer service if you need any replacement parts.

Bigger fans move so much more air too. 120mm fan moves about twice the air as 80mm fan at same speed; a third of what a 140mm fan moves.

And still have PC-50 but it now has 120mm front fan and am thinking of adding a 140 in the bottom for better GPU cooling. ;)
