Hi, new to the forums and case modding so excuse my ignorance but i have a couple questions. I'm going to start doing some easy mods to my case for visual and performance enhancements and wanted to get some info from the xperts.

1. I have 2 80mm fans in the front of my case that have a square block mesh behind them leading into the case. I've read that removing those mesh so that the holes are clear will help improve air circulation. Is this true or just an old geeks urban legend?

2. As you can see from the picture I also have a mounting rack/cage for harddrives right behind those 2 80mm fans which also block a good amount of airflow. Would it be safe to say that removing this would help as well? I would mount my drives in the upper 5.25 drive bays using harddrive quiet mounting kits.

3. I have a custom graphic I would like to get on the case window. I wanted to do this with some sort of film like a green window tint or a translucent film. Do you have any suggestions on what to use and how to go about doing it?

Yus, removing the mesh will help a lot with both airflow and noise. The mesh itself usually blocks about 50%-80% of the possible fan area, cutting that out and replacing with either a wire type grill (as come standard with most fans) will lower that to about a 5% restriction.

Whether you want to move the drive cage is up to you really, you can either have the fans cooling your harddrives, or if that's not really an issue, then moving them up to the 5 1/4 bays will improve the airflow over your CPU (and reduce noise more by moving them out of the airflow and into anti-vibration racks. I'm guessing a little about the specifics here as I can't see the pic you posted, but most of that is pretty generic

No need for grills if the front panel on your case is providing a cover. this is assuming the area you are talking about is the frame material blocking the fan intakes on the LL.
 
I have this very case, if I put my hands past the harddrive cage like in the bottom/middle of the case, I can feel the airflow from the 2 front intakes even with filters on them.

The mesh isn't too restrictive IMO, but it should give you some better airflow. If you really want it.

But if you want better airflow, change the fans. They push some air, but they can get better.
 
1. if you think you need better airflow, cut the things off, (usualy you would do this for the exaust too but the grill on that case is good as it is) but if your that woried about airflow, put better fans in, but if you want quiet, then your going to have to chose, alot of air realy fast, and noisy or less air less sound.

2. how many hard drives? if only one or two, id mount them in the hard drive bay, (you can try to put them on either side of the fan/s like top and bottom, so the air flows between them) that will let air threw and help cool your pc. there is enough room between the fans and the drive cadge, that the air will still move around in the case.

If you dont want to look at the cadge and you want to mount the hard drives in the 5.25 bay, then go for it, but there is less air flow there, so its gonna get warm near the drives, its ok but as alwase cooler is better


3.I need you to explain that some more, you can try cutting out what you want in window tinting, and glue it down how ever your suposed to do that, then go over it with cear (do it from the back of the window)

Heh, first thing I did was change out the front 2 fans and the top blow hole fan for 80mm panaflos. Made a nice dent in the case noise and air flow, but I'll probably look to use some sound dampening materials inside to help out more.

I was checking out the drive placements last night and rearranged them so they are both in the top 2 locations on the harddrive cage, puts them higher than the 2 fans. Seemed to let a bit more air through, so I'll monitor the temps for a week and decide if surgery is in order or not. (my 2400+ runs about 45c-47c under load and the case is usually around 37c-38c after a few hours of gaming, which from what I've read is ok, correct?)

The link for that site in regards to the window graphics is great, very good ideas there. Thanks! I also got a pm from a member that does custom window opeques so maybe he can work with me on it.

I guess what I wanted to do is have parts of the graphic to have a greenish tint to it so when I put my cathode lights in it gives it a green toxic type of glow to the graphic. I almost wish there was some uv reactive film that I could use. Anybody?
