i've an external HDD for my computer that is currently laying on my desk since it's the only place for it, however it gets extreamly hot since it only has a very very small built-in exhaust fan, so i've been thinking of building a type of case for it with a couple of fans to get the temp to drop on it.

the thing is i'm out of ides and wondering if any has built anything like this themselfs or have any ideas on how i could do this build.

what i'm looking for is a sample yet affective build that will cool my external HDD down.

Here is an idea that I used to do for an old monitor of mine that ran really hot.

I have a habit of snagging old computer people throw away and removing all the screws from them and taking bits and pieces and using them for mods and such.
Some of the old computers didnt have power switches on them, instead the powersupplies had a long cord that extended up to the front of the case that was used as the on off switch for the computer.

So I used to throw this old psu behind my desk and run an extended cable up to the top of my monitor to power a 120mm fan that sat ontop of the monitor to cool it viola!
The really handy part was the power switch sat nicely ontop of my desk so I could turn it on and off at will.

ANother idea is just create a small plexi cube to hold a hdd or two along with 1 or 2 80mm fans.
There have been several people who have custom made their own plexi cases. Just follow through with their general ideas just on a much smaller level.
Measure twice, cut once!
