Case cooling and grade school

Ok so when it comes to case cooling, i've always placed intake fans at the bottom of my case, and exhaust on top (especially the blow hole). I've always done this because as i learned in grade school science. Hot air raises, and cold air sinks. Therefore i would have cooler air coming into the case and the hot air gets out easier.

So here's the deal

Does that really make a difference? Does anyone cool their cases differently? Has anyone ever tried different configurations to see which works best? Or is it just a case by case situation (no pun intended :) )?

I say it doesn't matter. As long as you have fans pushing the air, natural convection (hot air rising, cool air sinking) makes a relatively minute contribution to airflow. Proper fan layout and CFM matching is of much greater concern.
