Hi, guys I would like to build a PC just for gaming (MMO) to be left on the TV media center but the max height would be about 9''.
the media center is open to the sides and back the only real limitation is height, depth is about 15''

It seem that this ones would fit.

silverstone SG13
silverstone RVZ01
silverstone ML09B

fractal node 304 or 202

what is the smaller I can go and still get good temps to prolong the life of the components.

I plan on building around the Nvidia 1060, AMD Ryzen 5 1600x or i5 7600K

Thanks.

I used to use ML09B cases but got tired of the ITX motherboard requirement and low cooler height. I used Prolimatech Samuel coolers. With that case you have to decide if you're going to use a cooler mounted fan or mount the fan on the underside of the case top. And of course use both case bottom fan mounts with a cable splitter since most ITX motherboards only have 2 fan connections. So I switched to the slightly larger Grandia GD09 case which is 6.69" high and 14.09" deep. This allows me a wider selection of MBs and power supplies. I like to use the Noctua C14S cooler with that case. And you don't have to turn your graphics card sideways.

I was all set on the ML09 but the only think that slowed me down was not much talk about it, so I dont know if it can keep a 1050ti or 1060 cool enough a long with a ryzen 1600.
it seem that you did not had heat issues more like compatibility issues for the size. I dont plan on upgrading the components every two yr maybe 4-5 from now.
What is the downside of the graphics card sideways?

Thanks.

The ML09 is a dedicated ITX size motherboard case, so there isn't much talk about it since most people don't like to be limited to ITX MBs. Plus you either have to use a low profile graphics card (especially if its double width) or mount it horizontally with a single bracket, which limits your cooler space even more. The horizontal bracket isn't even really suitable for graphics cards, just some other single bracket like added usb ports, so you're basically limited to a low profile video card, plus the ITX MB requirement, plus a slim format optical drive if you want one of those, plus the low profile cooler. So obviously its a really limited build case. In my build, I wasn't gaming so I just used the graphics built into the i7 cpus and went without a graphics card. If you go with the low profile video card, cooling should be OK since the the whole right side is open-perforated so you have a lot of air flow on that side of the case. But I wouldn't recommend this case for any build with a video card unless the card was one of those smaller low profile cards with a low (or even passive) cooling requirement. That's why I switched to the larger Grandia GD09 case, since there a fewer restrictions and more room and more options. Since the Grandia 09 is only 6.69" high, it would still fit on your shelf and be more future-proof, so you may want to consider that.

I moved my friends parts from a mid tower to an SG11B last night since he wanted a smaller case, chose the 11B since he has an optical drive.

I used to have an older Sugo case for my HTPC a number of years ago, nice and compact but can be a pain to work in since it is so tight.
