Right now I have a 4870, Q6600 and 4 GB of Ram. I'm deploying in a few months and my kid wants to play BF3 and that new mmo star wars game coming out soon. I'm thinking all I need to replace is the GPU. Is a HD 6870 good enough for that? The monitor is only 19inch.

When I get back in a year, Im getting myself a new rig. The old computer will be the kids. I really want to keep the upgrade under $300. My mobo is 2.0, will 2.0 work with 2.1? Thanks guys

An HD6870 will do well with battlefield 3 - it won't quite max the settings out at 19", but it'll play fairly well on high without the AA. The Q6600 is a bit long in the tooth too, but nothing too severe.
