i think i have seen this done somewhere before but can't remember where i was just wondering if anyone on here has it done or how i would go about doing it. like do i need a PSU with a certin watts? any help would be good thanks i know that the drive bay would be to small but i am going to take care of that with a bit of cutting
 
I'd recommend a dedicated PSU for just the CD player.

But I gotta ask, why? A CDROM can be made to play CDs without even booting up the system, and they already it in the case without any modding.

If you are looking to add some snazzy flashy lights to your front panel, might I suggest this ?

I've seen their website before... how about somewhere that actualy sells them?
 
searched google, used the froogle part, even tried pricewatch.com.... any help here?

i know a cdrom can do every thing that the in dash cd player will but doesn't look as cool

it is a sony explode model number cdx-m600 lights up blue and red ( not that anyone cares haha)

i am going to hook it up sometime this week i only have a 300 watt PSU so we will see what happens the 2nd PSU is a really good idea i will let you guys know what happens

I just did a little looking up about the Sony CDX-M600 head unit you're talking about, and unless you have a decent 12V Meanwell PSU to power it, I don't think you're going to pull this off too easily. This radio pulls around 20 amps under normal usage, and puts out around 80w of heat, which should probably be ducted out of the case. Good luck.
 
thanks for the info maybe i will try use my old PSU that i have in the basement to see how that holds up. do you think maybe a larger PSU would be able to handle the cd player and the computer? thanks again
 
That's a lot of power to supply to it too! Most PSUs only have about 18 amps on the 12v rail, so you're gonna need a big one to run that.
 
i was running a blaupunkt car stereo with a 12V 4 A PSU. worked fine ;)
so place a ceap 2.psu in the case and you're fine.
but like many stated before, a car stereo will generate a lot of heat :(
