Can't wait for winter...

Well my parents keep complaining because I keep the three computers I have down in the basement (where my computer is) on for the most part 24/7. There's no A/C or heating down here, so basically the temperature depends on what it is outside, so it's a little warm already, and my computers are making the basement even warmer. I don't really mind it, but my parents keep complaining...man I want it to be winter so I can tell them it's better than running the heat...

Is your basement totally underground (i.e. you don't have one side that's above ground)? It should be a fairly constant temperature no matter what the weather's like outside. Try shutting down the computers for a day, and see if they really have an effect on the temperature. Three computers isn't enough to warm up a basement--there's probably some other source of heat down there.

And be grateful you even have a basement to put boxen in...

well the basement is sorta on a hill, so part of it is almost totally underground, but there's windows and a door leading out. It's a basement where my desk and computers are and the TVs. It's been hot lately, so the basement is usually hot. My parents just blame my computers for everything. But yeah I like having a basement, my parents rarely come down here, so usually the boxen remain undisturbed.

If all they're complaining about is the heat, you can keep giving them the run around and last it out for another month. It's when they start complaining about the electric bill that you have to worry.

QFT :D
oh when winter comes...my electric is going to SUCK :D

I personally can't wait till it gets cool enough to turn off the ac during the day and keep the windows open, then I'll have a SUPER low electic bill, gotta save up for winter bills! :)

Yeah, I also can't wait to turn off the AC, however, I like the cold. So, living in PA I guess that I will be in luck. I wish that I could open my windows...

Been cold (60s) for the past week here in New England. I'm loving it.

I also love the cold weather. Always have. And here I am, sitting in Texas, the most freakingly-over-air-conditioned place in the world. I can't understand why everyone insists on setting the thermostat at 70 degrees. I've got ours at 78 at home, and it's plenty cool. We would seriously never have rolling blackouts if everyone turned up the thermostat 4 or 5 degrees....

...either that or they could run more boxen off that power they save :)
