today in the sunday papers,office max has a 80gig SE Western Digital on Sale for $39 bucks after rebate.

i have a 40gig Western Digital in my machine right now as a master drive and a SE as a slave{can't remember where i got it} and the Lifegaurd ulities installed.

so this is how it would go{this is how i'm thinking it cause it's been a long time since i have done this}:
to make the new 80gig a master,i would have to take out the 80 in the machine now and hook up the new HD as a slave,then use the software to take off my 40gig all my OS stuff,drivers,etc.take that out then and install the 80gig as a master and put the old 80gig as a slave like it was.

so,is that right or the lack of sleep i've been getting clouding my judgement.
 
The master/slave thing makes no difference for anything. Performance is the same for both the master and slave drives, access times, etc. They are equal positions in every way that matters.

That said... what you described would work. Or you could make your old 80GB drive the master and the new one slave. Either or.
