Can't OC Card #3

Someone out there I know has had this problem. Hopefully there is a fix. I just installed the 3rd 9800GT in my rig and it is folding at stock speeds. I have used Nvidia's performance utility and RivaTuner to OC and both work fine on cards 1 & 2 but will not let me OC card #3. RivaTuner does not even show a shader adjustment on card #3. This is an EVGA 780i FTW board and all cards are BFG 9800GT's. Drivers are 178.24's. Oh yeah, and Vista64 too. Any thoughts?

do you have a monitor hooked up to it or a vga dummy connector? if not that is the problem

My guess is it is the mobo.

Get GPUZ and see what the 3rd card is clocked at. I'm guessing that it is underclocked in 2d only mode.

Yes, I've had both a monitor and dummy vga connector hooked up to it. RivaTuner reports the cards is running at stock clocks and FahMan reports a PPD in line with that speed, i.e. just a few hundred ppd lower than the OC'd cards. It will be a huge disappointment not to be able to reach the full potential of all 3 cards with this board but I suppose having the 3rd one running at stock clocks is better than not folding at all. Surely someone has been able to get all 3 cards oc'd and folding on this chipset, anyone??

One other passing thought...at first the 3rd card WAS running at half speed like you thought, Kendrak, so I did a fresh install of the driver and it brought it up to "full speed/stock clock". Anyone think a different version of the driver or perhaps different OC tool might make a difference?

Thanks AMD_Gamer and Kendrak for such quick replies. The [H]orde is the best support group a folder could have.

You can always manually flash the bios with your OC settings.
You may want to move that card up to a slot that you can use ocing software on it to find it's stable oc then flash it to it's bios then move it back down to the 3rd slot.

Those are all awesome ideas Razor_FX_II. Thanks so much for the links. I'll give them a try tomorrow after a good night's sleep:eek:

Tried all of this but no luck. I can't find a more recent bios. The NiBitor bios mod software gives an error "cant start driver: 1275" and the NVFlash utility says it isn't compatible with my version of the OS. RivaTuner still wouldn't let me do it so I reinstalled the NVidia performance utility (again) just hoping for dumb luck but no such deal. I have not tried moving the card to a different slot just because I was hoping to find a fix without going through the hassle and lost point production. At least the 3rd card is folding albeit at stock speeds. Maybe I should be satisfied but my obsessive compulsive nature just can't stand the fact that I'm losing 500ppd for an unknown reason. How about it [H]orde? What should I try next?

Hold the phone... RivaTuner and GPUZ are now reporting the card is OC'd to my desired spec's. I was really surprised because every attempt to do so had met with error messages no matter which utility I tried. This must have occured through my attempts to use the Nvidia performance utility because RivaTuner never let me get that far. I'm going to let this GPU chew on a few WU's and see if the performance is on par with the other two in the box with it.
