I didn't know where to put this.
I'm building a new computer that's in my signature. Everything seems ok, but when I boot from the original windows CD it says 'press any key to boot from cd...'. I go ahead and press the space bar and from that moment I just see a black screen.
I tested the CD on my laptop. Boots fine and initiates the XP install. I put a bootable Linux CD in my new troublemaker PC and that works fine.
Could it be a bad harddrive? What happens after you press the space bar after seeing the 'press any key to boot from cd...' screen. Could it be trying to write something to the hdd?
