Can't get youtube to recognize adobe flash player

Got a hand me down laptop recently and cannot seem to watch videos on youtube due to this error message:

"Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player."

I've uninstalled using adobe uninstall program and reinstalled the new version and that has not worked. It does not work on firefox or internet explorer. I believe I have found similar probs via google, but I can't seem to find any answers.

Any suggestions?

Are you sure you installed Flash and not just the Adobe DLM plugin? That's what happened to me; the Adobe site installs the DLM and then you have to go back to actually install Flash.
Have you tried with Google Chrome?

Maybe someone else can help you more...
