Cant get into windows?

Ok so I brought my computer to my friends house and left it there.
Well I brought it back the following day hence I left it there.
He said he used some of my parts and was just using his video card on so ok thats fine... well now I log on and this wierd thing in the black screen before windows starts I think is called DOS Well it says nvidia boot agent ... then insert system boot disc wtf????

Did he erase my harddrive or what? what do I do?

BTW what is nvidia boot agent?

Edit: This is another computer with a nvidia card.... same stats as mine on the bottom in my signature but its got a geforce

nvidia boot agent is a piece of code in your BIOS that is trying to boot from your network (if you have one). you need to disable it in your boot order.

You need to bitch slap your friend and tell him to stop messing around with your shit.

Also, make sure you're set to boot off HDD and that the HDD is recognized - could be a loose cable.

I just had the same problem with a friends DFI board. In that case it was a bad cable (he pulled the connector loose). I'd say check all your cables and make sure everything is showing up in your BIOS. Once your sure of that make sure your boot order is setup correctly.

and btw how do i disable that? i cant find where i disable it...

and i plugged all the cables back in and its still the same...

plus its taking forever for it to detect my ide drives...

but after like 30 seconds it does... normally it just takes like a fraction of a second...

now its not detecting the drives for so long.... then it finally does... then it takes for ever to load through DOS, it says nvidia boot agent insert system boot disc WHAT DO I DO?????

I'd clear the CMOS and then start over in terms of setting all the BIOS options.

In the future, don't ever let your machine alone with people who don't knwo what they're doing.

It will reset the BIOS to it's default settings, so you can reconfigure it. Your problems have nothing to do with Windows based on your descriptions. I find it downright scary that someone would build their own computer and no know how to clear the CMOS. Anyway, pick up your manual and use it to find the jumper on your board to reset the CMOS. It will explain what you should do. Takes 10 seconds max.

c`mon guys please help me... i`m on my moms stupid laptop and i want to get back on the other one....

the DOS screen says exiting nvidia boot agent "Please insert system boot disc now and press ENTER"


Plus before that when it says press f8 for boot whatever and del for BIOS... well it takes forever to detect the IDE drives what do I do? its not the wires i plugged em in again and again.....

You wanted to know how to configure your BIOS to make sure the hard drive is in the right order, well here it is:

1. Press the Power Button, turn the computer on

2. Press either Delete or F2 (depending on your mobo) RIGHT AWAY

3. You should now see a Blue Screen that has a whole bunch of options that you might not understand.

4. Use your left and right arrow keys to scroll through the tabs on the top to the "Boot" tab.

5. There should be a list of things from where to boot

6. Use your up and down arrow keys to scroll with them. Find your hard drive and make sure it's highlighted using the arrow keys, (it has a weird name, so you have to figure out which one it is. If it's a Western Digital, the name will start out with WDC and then a million numbers) Now, press the + (plus) key until it becomes FIRST in the boot order.

7. Use your left and right arrow keys and scroll to "Exit" Select "Exit and Save Changes" and then press Y and then enter.

Your computer should now restart and HOPEFULLY, your OS will start up, hope this helps.

Yelling at us to fix YOUR problem isn't going to help anything. We've given several good solutions. All we can do is guess, because we aren't in front of the computer. However, if you can't figure out from the manual how to clear the CMOS, you should immediately take the PC to someone who knows what they are doing, and pay them to fix it. I apologize if that sounds rude, but your not following any of the solutions. You know NOTHING about the BIOS of your own board. With no knowledge, and no willingness to pick up the manual, we can't help anymore.
