I know a lot of people are interested in this body, so just a heads up. You can preorder it here (or just check out the specs like I did ;)) for $4499. Looks quite impressive.

I think this is more like a camera you would buy if you are a journalist :) or for people with fat thick wallet.

But you got what you paid for though :)

Definitely out of most people's price range, but it doesn't hurt to gawk over stuff ;) Personally I'm hoping to see a 10D upgrade then maybe I'll think about getting that after prices drop a bit.

that's one amazing camera...

Also, how come the EOS-1D Mark II page on the canon site doesn't have any sample images (at least I didn't see any). The rest of their cameras all do so why not this one?

If you are going to pay into the thousands for a digital SLR why not just go the whole hog and get the 1Ds? And for the D70, well I'll hold my tounge until the full reviews come in but it just looks like a competitor for the 300D with a few more gizmos. Plastic=nasty.

10D/D100 are by far the best mid-range DSLRs out there!

I would get that over the 1Ds, its aimed at a different buyer. The 1Ds is great for studio work and weddings and stuff like that. The 1D is the best for sports and photojournalism you can get.

Ummm, think before you speak much? There's a pretty big difference between $4500 and $8000 (MSRP prices). You could get a 1D MkII, 24-70mm f2.8L, 70-200mm f2.8L, and 300mm f4L IS for the price of the 1Ds body alone. It's like saying "Shit you are buying a $20K Honda, might as well buy a $35K Acura."

$8k is a little high, used 1ds' (mint condition!) are going for about 5800-6200 on E-bay and photography forums.

And my opinion is that when the 1d2 comes out they're going to have to lower the MSRP on the 1ds because even though it will still be the king of resolution it won't be by much, and they will lose a lot of the market to the 1d2 if they don't drop the price.
