cannot sign in to xbox video app today on Win 8.1

I had to use up some money on my xbox account before it expires and I dont own an xbox anymore so I just decided to watch some movies. Well this worked fine over the weekend as I watched 3 movies without issues but today all the xbox video app does is hang with the little signing in icon spinning and then will eventually close. If I go to it from the browser, it will let me sign in but it does not even show the movies that I have and all the movies in the store there are in just SD not HD. How the hell can something so simple get screwed up?
