i have a folder on my computer that is 93gb, every time i try to delete the folder (or anything inside the folder) it gives me the below message
"Cannot delete filename : Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected"

i am the administrator of my computer, i have tried the following solutions and none of them have worked
- restart in safe mode
- unlocker (program) -->http://www.topdrawerdownloads.com/download/104402
- move on boot (program) -->http://www.snapfiles.com/get/moveonboot.html

I have 5gb remaining on my 224gb harddrive, so this folder needs to go.

A linux Live CD Might Do the trick. Since you won't be in windows when you delete the file.

I know it can be done in this way, what specific linux live CD, or exactly how to do it I don't know. But I know its been done before.

Sorry For not being specific.

You might also try hijackthis's delete on reboot feature..

SymNetDrv? Related to Symantec in some way? Have you got any Symantec utilities installed, like AV or Norton Utilities or whatever? If so, one of those apps might have altered the properties and permissions on that folder to prevent you from messing around with it.

Just a suggestion for something to look into... I mean it's inside the Program Files directory already sooo...

Worse comes to worse, go get the UltimateBootCD at www.ultimatebootcd.com and fire it up, delete the folder from outside Windows totally, or a Linux LiveCD as already mentioned. I'd suspect it's got something inside that's related to the system or Symantec, but that's just my guess.

symnetdrv was a folder created by me to hold lets say my pokemon collection, so its definatly not related to symantec at all :p

i'll look into UltimateBootCD, but before useing that i think i should backup some of the stuff on my harddrive cause it looks kinda risky

You should have back ups of everything important anyways.. :p

Pokemon Collection, hrmm, If I had a "porn collection" I could name it that. ;)

Would you be willing to trade any of your pokemon...? :D

I gotta catch em all, no time to trade...how else could i become a pokemon master

Lol, too funny..

Hey, look on the bright side, at least you didn't pull one of those "Shemale Porn folder on DesKtop Posted on a public forum" Or "Naked body reflected in a tea set" ..

Lol!

First tip:

Stop putting your personal files in the Program Files directory - that's not what that directory is for and will cause you grief in the long run (might not be specifically related to what you're doing at this moment, but even so... it's not a place to just dump shit, ever).

That's about it... :)

yea, my pokemon collection is usuaully quite well hidden. At one time it was a maze with zip files and passwords, but now its just a oddly placed folder (and like 90gb bigger). However it would be quite embarisng to have a onyx on onyx action or snorlax folder on my desktop lol

also thats good to know bbz_Ghost, i'll prolly keep it on an external from nowon

try using your command prompt and this command. learn it
Code:
rmdir /?

Or this little gem that oh so many people don't even know about:

Yes yes, I know it's just a derivative of the rmdir command but, you really would be amazed at how many people never heard of that one, or use it. :)

If the other methods he's been attempting won't get rid of that directory, neither will rd/rmdir since they're just calling the routines all the other methods are as well. It sounds like his only option is to do it off a LiveCD or something that is totally outside of any Windows-related OS functionality.

Why are you trying to delete the "topless" jpg....... save it man.....:)

It's kinda sad when I can see just the top pixel or two of the bottom of that little screen snip and can read "Nicole.Graves.Karups.PC.wmv" clearly without even needing to really think about it.

I've been online for 30+ years man, I need a vacation. :)

Pokemon? Yeah... more like "Poke her, man..."

You need to take ownership of that folder before you can delete it.

XP Home or Pro? I'm not seeing the security tab...

Did you uncheck the Read Only box?

If XP Pro, I believe the easiest way to get the security tab back is:
My Computer -> Tools -> Options -> (2nd or 3rd tab) -> bottom option -> Uncheck "Use Simple File Sharing"
If not, dig through administrative tools -> computer management (right click My Computer -> Manage)

Dont forget that the file also needs to not be in use there buddy! :)

I think this is probably the right answer in this case. However, I don't think security can be changed on its own. Maybe it was a good reminder

and come on guys, lay off a bit :)

Could also try cacls and subinacl to change ownership and permissions through the command line.

The OP puts them in that directory to "hide" the folder from prying eyes. ;) No but seriously.......were you able to finaly delete the folder? If not simply delete chunks of files until they are all gone.

isnt it always fun exposing somebodies freaky pr0n collection

remember kids, only keep pron, youd be proud of being seen watching :)

hmm good point. like if it's a shared directory for emule or whatever

I should ban the lot of you for posting that link....1. it's against the forum rules and 2. it's just plain nasty :p

What are the effective rights you have over the file in question?
