Cannot conect to server!

Been having trouble lately getting work units on Windows XP 64 and Vista Ultimate 64

using client 5.04 I think it was

the error is http fetch error code 0
cannot connect to server

Tried allowing through firewalls and I cannot get any work unit :(

any ideas would be appreciated thanks!
 
How did you config the client. It has to be No on most questions like use Internet Explorer settings etc.
 
I followed the config guide on hardfolding to do my config. Used all the setting son there. Wicked
 
Can you paste the fahlog.txt contents (at least the first 50 lines) ?

 
Type the servers address (ie, 171.64.65.56 is the SMP server I last used) that you are trying to contact in your IE address bar.
If your firewall is letting you out it should come back ok.
You need ports 80 & 8080 open for it to work.

That was from the log and I typed that address in and the only thing that comes up is the word OK

Thats correct, it means your box can see the server.
Now check the Server status.
Is the server you are trying to connect to overloaded ?

If it is then try stopping the client for a few mins.
Hopefully when you start it back up, you'll be sent to a different server.
The assignment server is supposed to do that, but sometimes it fails.

It can be frustrating at time. I've tried superstitiously rebooting
and (as most superstitious behavior), it works some of the time!

A professor I had once told me about a Jeep that he owned. It
would never start on the first try, and then he would pull out the
manual choke on the dash and it would start right up. One day
he was checking the engine oil and noticed a rod extending
through the fire wall into the engine compartment . It was the
choke control, connected to nothing!

Perhaps we need a special thread on folding superstitions?

Hope you get a server soon. ;)

 
One of the first rules of folding you will, or have learned is if you can’t get work or send work it is probably a weekend.

Frustrating and annoying yes but rarely fatal.

I’ve restarted a stuck program like that till I was blue in the face, kicked the machine even done a full reinstall but none of it helped until somebody at Stanford came into the office and loaded more work.

It do happen, but thankfully not very often anymore. Take heart though, since I am all but a non sleeper I’ve seen work suddenly start up again at like 3:00 AM;)

Sorry about your problems.

I guess it is happending on both machines... XP and Vista?

With Vista there might be some Vista Firewall thingy getting in the way. Maybe XP as well.

What kind of firewall do you have? Is the operating system's firewall running at all?

Any other firewall in operation? Is this at home or at work?

Just trying to brainstorm. (I'm not superstitious... but I have my fingers crossed just in case!) :D ;)
 
I had to stop two clients yesterday that would not download work units... something was up... so just stop the client reboot if you want and restart them they will fix!
 
Well I would agree a bad day but for multiple days on end! I am just pulling out my hair but oh well nobodies gonna miss just one of me!
