can you force widescreen resolutions?

Just curious. I just picked up a 20 inch widescreen display and I'm trying to use it with my sony vaio notebook. The notebook has a ati 7500 graphics card, but Its not showing me any widescreen resolutions. Any ideas?

Unsure, but there are two things on the top of my head that you can try:
-install the newest catalyst drivers incase more resolutions are supported
-in display properties -> settings -> advanced -> monitor tab, uncheck the box that says 'hide resolutions this monitor cannot display'

Older video cards (like yours) don't support 1680x1050 res so you can't go native I would think they would support some wide screen res though.

I figured it out guys, thanks. And I can display at the native res, very nice and very cool. Looks amazing.
